Growing up a pro-wrestling fan, I loved the Rock ‘n’ Roll Express. From 1983-85, I would only be able to read about them in the wrestling magazines, but in July of 1985, I watched them debut in the NWA and win the World’s tag team titles from those dreaded Russians on their debut.

I was a card carrying member of the Rock ‘n’ Roll Express Fan Club. Literally. I loved wrestling so much, that is was hard for me to boo anyone. Okay, that’s not true. I booed and cheered, but I didn’t “hate” anyone. But Ricky and Robert were definitely my favorite tag team of the 80’s.

In 1986, my buddy Steve and I dressed up like Ricky and Robert to participate in the Rock ‘n’ Roll Express contest. And when I became a pro-wrestling in 1994, I crossed paths with them a few times and they couldn’t have been nicer.

Throughout my career, I have wrestled Ricky plenty of times in singles and tag team matches. And I have wrestled Robert plenty of times in singles and tag team matches. But I had never wrestled them as the Rock ‘n’ Roll Express.
In July of 2016, I got my chance. 30 years after the picture Steve and I took. 22 years into my pro-wrestling career. 8 months after major neck surgery. It was perfect…well, one thing made it perfect. That afternoon in Milwaukee, I got to team with Colby, my son. Corino’s vs. Rock ‘n’ Roll Express.
I have never seen the match on tape (I will have to get with the boys at Brew City Wrestling), but for me, it was a dream come true. To be there with Colby, teaming as rule breakers, against arguably the greatest babyface tag team in history, was just more amazing then words can describe.
Pro-Wrestling has been one dream come true after another for me. Not just in the ring, but as a fan, and even now as a Coach and Producer. It’s the greatest form of entertainment and allows us to reach for the stars.
Thank you for reading and keep checking out more stories on www.SqCircleCafe.com, as I will be uploading more and more old stories.
